How does your activity support the mission of the Friends of Egleston Parks? This block party strengthens neighborhood bonds, fosters a sense of community, and creates positive, shared memories in our local park. It provides a relaxed and fun setting for neighbors to connect, for children to play, and for everyone to learn more about the great resources available in our community.
Location (Peace Garden or Robert Lawson Park, or both)? Robert Lawson Park
How do you plan to publicize the activity and who do you expect will attend? We will promote the event with flyers in local businesses, social media posts, and neighborhood listservs. We expect neighbors of all ages, local families, and community organization members to attend.
Describe the work steps involved in executing the activity and who will be responsible for all tasks? Gary Goodtimes will serve as the lead organizer and will be responsible for securing the city park permit, booking the local band and food truck, and coordinating community organization outreach. Volunteers will assist with event setup, activity coordination, and cleanup. The food truck vendor and band will manage their own logistics.
What is the timeline for planning and promotion, acquiring permits (if necessary), scheduling times, set up, and clean up? One month out: Secure city permits, book the band and food truck, and begin outreach to community organizations. Two weeks out: Begin promoting the event with flyers in local businesses, social media posts, and neighborhood listservs. Day of event: Volunteer team to manage setup, oversee activities, and ensure a complete cleanup of the park after the event.
What are your anticipated outcomes from this activity? A well-attended, family-friendly community event that brings neighbors together, showcases local talent and food, and increases awareness of community organizations active in our neighborhood. We anticipate 50–100 attendees and aim to make this an annual tradition.
